Fathers Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients of Fathers Foundation Scholarships for the 2008-2009 school year. They are: Asya Akins, Faith Drake, Sunny Elliott, Ayreka Ford, Carrissia Hill, Zebedee James, Summer Martin, Elwanda Mills, Elizabeth Owens, Michael Ratley, William Smith, Alysssa Starnes, Faith Thomas, Zina Thornton, and Phyniques Williams.
Scholarships totaling $22,500 have been awarded for the 2008-2009 school year. Students who were awarded these scholarships must be residents of Cumberland County and enrolled in a North Carolina college and who, despite adversity and disadvantaged background, have an exceptional desire to better themselves and their community through education. Since 2006, Fathers Foundation has awarded $50,000 in college scholarships. Some scholarship recipients have received funding for all three years.
Members of the board of directors and the advisory board of Fathers Foundation are Dr. Eric L. Mansfield, Dr. Sharon Cooper, Lisë Glazier, Attorney Beth Hall, Chris Harris, Sheila Kinsey, Bobby McCoy, Manish Mehta, Dr. John Ray, Dr. Wayne Riggins, Dr. Kent Risk, Dr. Beverly Spivey, Robbin MacGregor, Dr. Ada Ventura-Braswell, and director, Sandy Ammons.
The primary mission of Fathers Foundation is to offer college scholarships to students from disadvantaged backgrounds and to fund programs that promote higher education and responsible choices.
Applications will be available online in December 2008.
